Learning New Things

Hello Friends.  The other day MOM and I went out to the garden.  She had to put fresh batteries in the radio that is in the corn.  Seems that raccoon do not like music from the 80's. That's the 1st new thing I learned that day.  While we were out there MOM decided to do some weeding and pick a few veggies.  As you know I like to help.  I munched on a few cherry tomatoes, yum yum.  I wanted some peas but it seems they are done for now, well until the late Fall when we will have another crop.  MOM picked a few cucumbers and peppers along with some carrots and tomatoes.  I watched with great interest.   Then MOM moved on to weeding.  After a little while MOM heard a sound and looked up and saw this guy.

Actually she saw him flying above, squawking.  Then he landed on the roof of the church.

He must spend a lot of time up there.  Then MOM looked behind her, and this is what she saw.

Me eating carrots.  Can you see the carrot tops on the ground by my paws?  The 2nd thing I learned that day: I think the Hawk told on me as he flew by squawking.

The 3rd new thing I learned, how to pull up carrots.  I saw how MOM did it and when she started weeding I got a little hungry so instead of bothering her, I just pulled up some carrots myself.  I would pull up one eat it, then pull up another and eat it.  They were tasty.  Know what my MOM did?  She just smiled and said "I'm glad you're eating your veggies.  Guess that's why you are still going strong at 12 and 1/2.  But I would be glad to wash them off for you."    I told it was OK, the dirt added to the taste.

Yum Yum.  Lip smacking goodness sitting right in front of me.

What to come over for dinner?  There is plenty and I'd love to share.
Blessings,
Goose

  2. Looks like the garden is doing very well. The bounty is just down a couple of carrots that you helped yourself to ;-)

P.S. I can't remember if I thanked you for your kind words and prayers for Nina. She is doing okay for now, but not out of the woods so keep the prayers coming.

PeeeeeeS: mom thought your mom might like this story: when mom was a kid she went to catholic mass every week. One Sunday it was really, really hot like it was today. When it came time for the sermon, the priest, who was wearing all those heavy vestments, got up to the pulpit and said, "if it's this hot here, imagine what he'll is like!". The end. He got down and finished saying mass! BOL!

  5. Either you're getting rain or your mom is watering; your veggies look luscious. We see you've added a hawk to your staff to help you patrol for voles. Let him catch some; he doesn't have supplemental food available like you do. Abby is also a dedicated hunter, although she is more focused on chipmunks [and birds].

Goose your garden is doing very well and I'm sure it is all due to your weeding and tending and of course sample to make sure they are good enough for your Mom and of course we know a little dirt helps the fiber go down. 19. Thats pretty funny Goose. We are sitting here chomping on a carrot from your garden as we read this. And last night we had some green peppers. My Vickie likes them raw and so do I so we just grabbed a few and watched tv while we ate. Then we had Ice Cream. You know. too much of a good thing (like veggis) well, ya gotta mix it with ice cream.

    see ya tomorrow.

  25. Oh my our Mom is sitting here drooling over those vegetables. She is so jealous since we don't have a garden because our dirt is to hard to dig in and things don't grow well here. We are glad to meet you Goose. Our doggie, Jasmine loves carrots too. We are mostly cats here but we do have two dogs. One Australian Shepherd and a Border collie. Our silly Mom rescues cats. We also have two miniature donkeys. So good to meet you and hope you have a great day.

  28. Hey Goose!
Wow, what a gorgeous big hawk! Boy, your Mom must have really green thumbs 'cause that's a great crop. Personally I don't do veggies, but if someone played 80's Bon Jovi music in a garden, my Mom would live there! BOL

  29. What a coincidence, Goose, because today mom & I stopped at a veggie stand and I was so excited by it that I rolled all over the ground hoping she'd buy some carrots for me but she didn't have any $$ with her! Glad you had your fill of carrots! Can I come over for dinner?

  40. My mom is drooling over that bountiful harvest! She took care of our neighbors' tomato patch while they were out of town and they told her "be sure to pick and eat anything you'd like" and so she did. THEN they brought her a thank you gift. Mom said it's like she was thanked twice! HA roo!
That hawk is one cool-looking dude, even if he is a tattle tale. Or tail.
