Bert's Mischief

Hello Friends.

You read the title right, Bert's Mischief.  My buddy who is known for his wonderful work as a therapy dog, he reads to children at the schools, of course even though he is retired from Search and Rescue he still does it now and again, AND he goes to schools and wherever children gather to teach them how to be safe in the wilderness and if they do get lost what to do.  Yep that's the Bert I am talking about and his mischief.  Let me explain.

This is a place we call The Pond.  You have seen me here before.  Bert and I like to come here.  This pond is along the Centennial Trail that I showed you on Blogvilles first Park Day.  What is unique about the pond is it is privately owned.  The path around the pond is owned by our town, but the pond it's self is private.  The people who own it are super nice.  They compete in water skiing competitions and this is where they practice.  Miss Vickie knows them and they board their dog with her.  On the other side of those trees you see in the distance is the river that we love so much.

That is where I rescue a lot of sticks.

And Bert soaks his head.  But soaking his head is not the mischief.

Let's get back to The Pond.  So there we were walking around The Pond with Miss Sophie to get to the river side, when all of the sudden Bert BLAST past me and veers left to the pond.  I thought he just really really wanted to get wet and did not want to wait til we got to the river.  He's crazy about water like that.

"Hey Bert what ya doing?  Come on MOM and Miss Vickie want us to get a move on.  Bert.  BERT!  Oh my goodness Bert, what do you have?  MOM you better come see this."

I think Sophie was very worried that her beloved Bert was drowning.  But I knew what was going on.

You see that thing he has in his mouth?  You know what that is?  It is a water buoy that the skiers use to keep them safe so they don't run a ground and get hurt.

Miss Vickie was shocked.  But she thought he'll give up soon, because after all, this thing has a big chain attached to it and it has a HUGE 4x4 that the other end of the chain is attached to and is anchored to the bottom of the pond.  All though she did keep telling him to drop it and get out of the water.

But it was like the boy lost his hearing.  All he saw was a giant ball and he was determined to get it to shore so my MOM could throw it for him.

AND HE DID!  He actually dragged that orange buoy to shore.  Chain and 4x4 and all.  AND, yes there is more, he tore the buoy in HALF!  Noticing that the "ball" was no longer a ball he left it on shore and trotted up the trail like nothing was wrong.  Miss Vickie just stood there trying to comprehend what the Golden Boy had done.  So there you have it, Golden Boy's mischief.  I know you all are shocked.
Blessings,
Goose
Special note:  Yes Miss Vickie called the owners of the pond and told them what Bert did and offered to pay for a new one.  I am not sure how that conversation ended.  I guess if we get to go back then all is well.

  16. Goose Buddy, boy I guess you know it, I got in trouble when I got home. well not trouble but I did get a good talking to. "Bert you could have drowned Bert you need to listen to me when I tell you to Come. Bert, this is really gonna cost me" and on and on. But to tell you the truth, I sensed she was grinning under her sour look. And Dude, tell your mom thanks for getting it on film. It was a proud moment for me when I dragged that thing and its chain and the heavy thing on the bottom, to shore. I AM KING OF THE WORLD. he he.....but I am her Golden Boy too.

  19. That's a golden mischief, haha. But that was a hard work, a buoy with the whole equipment ! - Oh Boy - a Buoy :o) Think we should call him now Bercules :o)

  20. This. Is. Hilarious. Only Bert would drag a buoy across a pond in hopes of celebrating it's awesomeness with everyone. He must have thought he was competing in the Olympics of all rescues with that one. Perhaps he was doing under cover training for that tricky of a rescue that this adventure will reveal itself as seminal.

Happy seeing beautiful in buoys today!

  26. Well, when a dog wants his ball, there is nothing that will stop him, right? We hope the owners are not upset and understand that dogs do have their mischievous moments.

  35. Hi Goose, I just bounced over from Tootsie's blog, and boy am I glad that I did. You see I have been in my human's bad books ever since exhibiting too much creativity and individuality when running round an agility course at the weekend, but now you have related all about Bert's misdemeanour in the pond then I don't look so bad by comparison. I am a terrier and not at all fond of water you see.
