Annual Treat Visit

Hello Friends.

Yep it is that time of year for me.

It's time for me to visit my Vet Guy, Dr. Eddie.  I don't mind coming here.  They give me treats and good ear scratches.

I'm a good boy and keep my MOM amused in the exam room.
"Hey MOM why do Bees have sticky hair?"
"I don't know Goosie, why?"
"Because they use honeycombs."

Hahhahhahhaha  "Hey MOM did ya hear the one about the squirrels in the church?"

"Oh wait, Dr. Eddie is here.  I sure hope he knows I am here for a yummy treat."

He listened to my insides, and checked my muscle tone, looked at my teeth and eyes.  It was a complete check over and I am happy to say that everything is A-OK.  He says I am as fit as a healthy 5 or 6 year old.  Not bad for a Goose who is over 13 years old.  "OK Dr. Eddie where is the treat?  That is really why I am here."

WHAT?!  Oh I had to get a shot in the butt.  No worries, I was due for that shot.  I didn't even feel it.  Now where is that treat?

What do you mean I am due for that squirty stuff up my nose?!  Fine, fine, I don't like the squirty stuff but I was brave and took it like a big dog.  "NOW, how about that treat?"

"Oh for goodness sake,  now what?"
"It's your snake shot.  It's time for you to get it Gooie."
"Oh right.  OK OK I have had my shots updated, and the squirty stuff up my nose and the added bonus of my annual snake shot.  SO, now do I get what I came for?"

"Oh Yea!!!!!  You bet I'll catch this.  After all, the treat is why I came here."

I want to take a moment to bark at ya about the snake shot.  Why do I get one you may ask.  MOM and I do a lot of hiking and walking in areas where snakes live.  We have even had a few snakes in our yard, and one time for sure it was a rattlesnake.  About 8,000 people get bitten by venomous snakes in the US every year.  It is estimated that 150,000 dogs and cats get bitten.  Snake bites are 25 times more fatal to dogs than humans.  Yes the snake vaccine is safe.  Been through extensive test.   The snake vaccine delays the effects and reduce the severity of snake bites and helps dogs survive and recover more quickly.  This vaccine give my MOM more time to get me to the vet or hospital if I were to be bitten.  My friend Dougal was bitten last summer and because he had the vaccine the doctor said he survived.  I will tell you this vaccine will not protect you from the Mojave Rattlesnake, Coral Snake, or Cottonmouth.  The vaccine last a year.  MOM and I believe that  more dogs should have the vaccine.  Snakes are not just in the mountains.  In fact in the area I live in they are in places you would not think.  That is especially true this year because it is so hot and it is predicted to be a very hot season.  So those sneaky snakes are looking for a cooler place to be and are looking for water.  This vaccine also gives my MOM peace of mind in that she is doing what she can to protect me (aside from wrapping me in bubble wrap and never letting me outside).

Blessings,
Goose

  3. You were very brave Goose!! We are very glad that you explained about the snake shot because we live in New York and have never, ever heard about a snake shot...even though we travel a lot. We are glad that you are in great health and that your MOM makes extra sure by getting you that snake shot! Hope it was a good treat! xoxo Chloe and LadyBug

  6. Howdy Goose, we're happy to hear you are healthy and well. We are interested in your info on the snake shot. We've never heard of it but we too live in an area where snakes are about in the hot weather. Thanks for the info mate. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

Goodness Gracious Goose-ji - you are a veritable senior; I can hardly believe it! You are surely blessed for walking the path.

In OZ there are many venomous snakes also - but I never heard of there being a proffy-laktik jab to protect Jade against bites. It is an excellent idea and Mom is surely doing the right thing for you.

Now you're set for many more wild adventures and stick rescue operations. &*> Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xx

  8. Oh Goose buddy, that is some good information on the snake shot. I am glad you got a clean bill of health. I think the treat is worth all that prodding, don't you?

  9. Goose what a wonderful post and congrats on the excellent Goose Report!! Dr. Eddie is pretty cute but evidently he needs to be quicker with the treats....I think you should get one for each event and one when he enters the room and leaves the room! My vet tries to give me a kitty treat when my exam is over but, I'm a kitty I hold a grudge...not letting him get by with a single treat after taking my temperature.

Thank your Mom for explaining the snake shot. Whoa that kind of gave us the willies.

    Hugs madi your BFFF

  12. Glad you got a good bill of health Goose! I think if we lived in an area with nasty poisonous snakes, we would definitely look into that vaccine.

I sent you an email last evening about the giveaway. Maybe check your spam folder because a couple went in there. Let me know if you didn't get it. :) Congrats again!

  13. I remember about Dougal, I'm glad he survived this attack. I agree - you were there for a treat. What else. But I'm glad the vet gave you a check up and a snake shot as you was there for your treat. The best news is that you are fit and healthy like a 5-6 year old Weim - that makes me very happy!!! Have a great monday and thanks that I know now why Bees have sticky hair.

  14. We didn't know about snake shots..my mom is creeping out but she is so glad you got one. Her brother works for the Dept. of Interior in upper grand canyon and he says they are bad this year, and he is an iowa boy so he is not use to those kinds of snakes. What was the stuff up your nose that you got? At least you got a treat from your vet, all our vets me is the bill!!!

  15. You look like you did a great job at the vet. We find if you act nervous, you get more treats. We didn't even know there was a snake shot - but we live where there aren't any poison snakes. It is good to know.

Have a great day. Lee and Phod

  16. My vet gives me treats ALL through the visit. She's totally pawesome! But a snake shot, huh? Hmmm. My momma is totally freaked out about those things and would probably pass out if we found one, so I'd definitely need the extra time to help tow her to safety.

  25. We are glad you checked out with Dr. Eddie. Thanks for recommending him to us by the way. Did you know you can get your heartworm medicine at Costco CHEAP?? It is the no-name version but will save many green papers! We don't have snake vaccines. You know how mom won't let us run off leash and she says she will NOT get close to a snake. BTW, we'll fill up the pool so stop over with some beers.

  33. Gooseee! How have you been?? I'm glad to hear you're doing OK! I never heard of a snake shot -- that sounds scary! We have snakes occasionally in our backyard, but they're not the dangerous kind. I hope you never meet up with one of those!

  34. Hey Goose, What a brave boy you are! Hunter does not like our vet. Glad you got the snake shot-does it include the Diamondback Rattler? That is what we always had in our yard and area in Ca. but I've never heard of the vaccine for dogs. Maybe your mom should be the human shot too-just to be safe.
    Thanks for sharing!

And thanks for the info on the snake shot. Super interesting. We don't have poisonous snakes in northern Idaho, but I'm going to ask about this for southern Switzerland (vipers!).

  40. Wow! It took way too long for you to get your treat but you were very patient about it, fur sure! I never heard of a snake shot and I've been a pet sitter for over 10 years. Snakes aren't common in NH (especially rattlesnakes) so I'm glad about that! Your mom is very smart to make sure you get that shot!

  43. Hi Y'all!

Goose, I used to like to go to the vet...but since my surgeries I'm not as happy...but I'm a brave fellow! You are super brave!

We have cottonmouth, copperheads and rattlers at the shore and just copperheads and rattlers in the mountains. It is so neat that y'all can get a shot to buy y'all time to get to the vet.

Hope your weather is cooling down so y'all can enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend.

    Y'all come back now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  44. I am oh so glad you are in such great shape, Goose! And it's a good thing you get that rattlesnake vaccine; I get it too 'cause we do lots of hiking (or we used to anyway).

But I gotta know about the squirrels, Goose! What is the joke about the squirrels in church?? :)

  46. There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.
