Waiting

Once again today MOM and I helped out a dog who is learning to be a SAR dog.  I have mentioned before how much both MOM and I enjoy doing this.  This time the scenario was MOM, me, and Bert's Vickie (Bert still had to stay home to heal up) set off together.  At some point we separated, Vickie went one way and me and MOM went another.  The SAR dog was to find Vickie, not us.  My MOM takes this real serious.  We hiked up a huge hill then followed a trail, then cut into some REAL THICK brush, trees, tall grasses and at times swampy area. Oh Dog was it fun!  But every so often MOM would stop and make me stop, and we would wait, and wait, and wait.  I get a little impatient waiting, I want to romp around and find my own way out.  On one of the times we were just WAITING MOM told me this scripture: Psalm 130:5-6 "I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait, And in His word do I hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen for the morning; Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning."  Then she asked me what I thought it meant, what can all of us learn from those words.  I'll tell ya what I came up with after you watch, if ya want, this video of me and MOM waiting.

I think this is a pretty important exhortations, to “wait on the Lord.” Even though God promises special blessing for waiting, waiting is one of the most difficult things to do.  And as I sat there waiting, I think I know why.  We are so prone to take matters into our own hands, to follow our own schemes. Yet, we are told in Scripture “wait on the Lord.”
I admit I don't like to wait and when MOM tells me to wait I say, “Wait? That’s what made the bridge collapse!” hehehhehe.  Of course, that’s weight, not wait. But you know what?  These two words, weight and wait are not always unrelated because one of our needs in waiting on the Lord is the need to cast the weighty burdens of life on our Creator.
My funny about the bridge expresses our normal dislike for waiting, especially in our “I want it now!” society. Ours is a society that has grown accustomed to immediate gratification, there are many things immediately at our fingertips or at our paws.
Even in this age of conveniences, waiting is still a big part of life. When you think of waiting, what comes to mind? You might conjure up visions of an airport terminal, a doctor’s waiting room, the line at the supermarket, or being stuck in rush hour traffic.  Or in my case waiting to be found or waiting for a treat.  The facts are, most are waiting for something most of the time.  What are you waiting for?
The simple fact is life is full of waiting. And one of the most challenging exhortations of Scripture is “Wait.” But waiting, despite our impatience and our dislike for it, is a vital element in life.  Indeed, waiting has a number of benefits.  I'm curious, what do you think the benefits are?

Blessings,

Goose

This is a beautiful post that's really made me think. I'll have to get back to you on what the boys think about the post...they're asleep so I'll have to WAIT until morning. Goodnight Goose!

  7. My K and R would say that the good part of waiting is that they always get a treat if they do it right - waiting at the door, waiting on the trail... You get the picture, Goose.

I think that the benefit to waiting is that you have time to think about what you're going to do next (rather than leaping without thinking) so you make a better decision. And, I don't mind waiting (yes, that's what it feels like sometimes) when it comes to K's illness. Every day of waiting is an amazing gift because we're just "waiting", nothing worse.

  8. We have to wait a lot here too, especially for the release of OK to eat our dinner. But it is a good thing to do, it brings patience and tolerance, and as KB said, better decision making. Right now we are waiting for the rain to stop so we can all go play in the yard.

  9. Goose, you are real good at waiting. That video showed lots of patience. We thinking waiting is part of handing it all over to God. Being confident that He has a plan that is far greater then our own for our lives. Sometimes that includes waiting vs. acting out of our human desires to control. We give it all to Him. We wait for His amazing work in our lives. You know how that feels, right Goose? It's clear by your wonderful smile you've got this figured out.

    Happy seeing beautiful!

  10. I don't mind waiting - as long as I can lie down somewhere comfy and have a snooze while I'm doing it.

  11. Mom says that great things are worth waiting for = and that the anticipation process helps bring all of our senses full attention. Maybe that's what God wants -- for us to be listening with all of our senses to hear Him in our lives!
We loved your video, Goose! That song was really nice, too!

  14. Ha! Dad has been trying to talk Mom into going out and getting "lost" in a few weeks! We'll see if that happens, especially now when she's really sick.

Sometimes I think she wonders how much waiting for something is enough. How do you know when to give up on waiting and move on to something else?

  15. Woof to you Goose! It was so kind of you and your MOM to help train the SAR dog. And I loved all of the pictures of you in action! When it comes to waiting patiently, I am a work in progress. I never liked waiting around like a sitting duck because bad things tended to happen when I did (I didn't always have a safe and loving home). But as I become more confident and more secure of my place in this world, I find waiting easier and am learning that patience is a virtue.
