Remembering Kisses

Let me tell you about Kisses, my friend.  MOM’s friend, Handi, when her family lived in Utah, brought Kisses home from the Humane Society when she was 4 years old.
She came into a home full of lots of love complete with a brother, Baily, who was a beautiful chocolate lab.  Kisses loved to ruff house with him until he went over the Rainbow Bridge.  Then Jake came in to this house of love.  Kisses tolerated Jake and let him know she was top dog.  And believe me she was.  More than once she let me know that, and I respected her and her toughness.  Jake loved her right to the end when he crossed the bridge.
Soon Abby Grace came to be Kisses new housemate.  And after just 3 short weeks Kisses adopted Abby as her very own pup.  The two of them made a great team and of course Kisses was the boss, but Abby Grace didn’t mind, she loved Kisses.
It is with a heavy heart that today, MOM received word that Kisses crossed over the Rainbow Bridge, she was 14.
Kisses loved camping, laying in the river, not swimming, just laying in the cool water and she loved the snow.  Her favorite food was bread and bananas.  When her hips still worked, oh how she loved to chase her tail.  It would make anyone smile and smile BIG.
A couple of years ago Kisses family moved to the beautiful mountains of Colorado because her mom was to become the new pastor of a church there.  It was sad to see them go, but we always kept in touch.  She lived in the mountains where she watched, barked at, and chased the wild animals.  I guess she wanted them to know SHE was the boss.
She was named Kisses because she loved to give kisses.  Right before she crossed the bridge today, it snowed and she gave each family members one last kiss.
Run free Miss Kisses.  I have no doubt that you are chasing your tail and bossing Baily and Jake around.  Until we meet again, here is a kiss for you.
Blessings,
Goose

  3. Oh Goose, we are truly sorry about your friend Kisses. Apart from having the coolest name of any dog we have heard, she sounded like a total gem. Always knew she was boss, always accepted new members to the family and always gave kisses. Perfect. Sincere sympathy to all in her family and to you too. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  8. I am so sorry for your loss, Goose. It sounds as if Kisses had a wonderful life, so loved by her family, including her dog pack-mates. I'm glad that she had a relatively long time on this Earth, and I hope that she's rolling in the grass and playing with her two departed siblings. She brought tears to my eyes as I read about her. I am thinking of her family and you.

  9. It's okay, Goosy. I'm pretty sure Kisses went over the rainbow bridge as well.

Fourteen years is a long life given the average lifespan of big doggies is 8-10 years. Kisses has definitely lived a good long life.

    My Condolences,

    Haopee

  15. Hi Goose - sounds like Kisses had a pretty good life, but I'm sure her family misses her.

I stopped by to let you know that the ethics committee has notified me that they believe the photo evidence I submitted regarding Allred has been doctored. They will not advise Mr. Mango to disqualify him. Also, Mr. Mango himself left me a comment suggesting that even if Allred's father is Satan, his mother might be a lovely kitty and therefore Allred will be allowed to compete in MM.

Obviously I'm upset that my petition was rebuffed. You mentioned a covert operation that you're working on... please be advised that I have lots of experience in this regard and would be honored to join forces with you and any other dogs who might be interested.

  16. Hi Goose, I'm so sorry as well for everyone whose life Kisses touched and impacted but I know that she is much happier now, running free and be happy. It's just so hard for family and her loved ones. For a lab to live that long is amazing and I know her family has many good memories.
    Sending lots of love today.

  19. Thank you for all the well wishes, prayers and thoughts. We know that Kisses is having a great time with Baily and Jake. Jake has probably shown her to the endless supply of cheese balls (One of Jake's favorite foods. Baily is showing her all the great places to find a stick. Abbey Grace misses her, but enjoyed her usual ball playing excursion with Dad.

    Thanks from Kisses' Mom

  21. Miss Kisses had the most amazing treasures life holds: love, a caring family, a nurturing home, and dear friends like you. She was blessed on earth as we know she is over the Rainbow Bridge where she is eternally young and full of spirit...and waiting to greet each of her dear ones with Kisses. A beautiful tribute. Peace to her and her family.
