Persistence Pays Off

Hello Friends.

A couple of years ago when I was staying at my gal pal Belle's house while her parents were out of town Belle introduced me to a Treat Ball.  I had never seen anything like it.  You knock the thing around and yummy treats fly out of it.  I loved it.  And I got pretty good at it.  I got so good that I learned how to untwist the ball and get ALL the treats out at the same time.  But this just didn't happened.  I had to work at it.  I pressed on towards the prize.  I haven't played with my treat ball in a while, a long while.  But MOM got it out for me yesterday.  I think she wanted to keep me busy while she worked.  But that's all OK with me.  Could I still twist the ball apart still?  Take a look.

"I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 3:12-14

We can learn from my perseverance in getting the treats from my treat ball.  At first it took me a while to figure out the whole treat ball.  But I kept trying and trying.  Then it happened, I figured out how to untwist the ball and all the treat came flowing out.  Just like my story about the Treat Ball, life can be described as a marathon, not a sprint. Each day of our life is another day to choose between love and hate, beautiful and ugly, to help someone in need or look the other away, to offer hope or perpetuate hopelessness. As Paul reminds us in Philippians 3:12-14, we are called to persevere, to press on.  Sometimes it can feel like an unrewarding task.  What if I had chosen to give up getting the treats out of the ball after a little while?  My goal would have been left unfinished.  And the rewards would still be stuck in that ball.  Press on towards the goal friends.  Endure!  But be forewarned, it may take some time to see the treats of your labor!

Blessings,
Goose

  2. Wooooohoooo you got it Goose!! That was amazing watching you work on it. I love the picture towards the end when you have the ball and you are looking at the camera. I am going to try that perseverance thing in pestering my Mom to give me a treat. If I don't give up, maybe I will win. I will get back to you on that.

  10. Great job, Goose! I have such a ball thingy too. It made me angry if only one small itsy bitsy tiny came out... But if I throw it on the floor or against the furnitures it bursts out and I can get all the treats ;o) I agree with you - it take some while till you get the wage for your work - if you are persistent and diligent ;o)

  22. Sam tends to open those rather easily too - Monty has been known to chew them open. We can't give it to them unless we are home.

  23. You're such a great teacher, Goose. I like how you break things down into lessons us pups can understand. It's all so clear. And (in this case) tasty. Great rewards await us!

  24. :-) I am all for persevering until my goal is reached (or in most of us pups' lives - treats are reached)! Good job on the nummies!!

  25. Good job getting it apart! Mommy bought me a treat cube, but it was too easy for me so she went out and got me a Buster Treat Cube. It doesn't twist apart, you have to pull a core out, and even MOMMY has trouble getting it apart when she wants to clean it. It also can be set for different ranges of difficulty. I quickly wound up in the genius level.

  26. Goose, You are one smart pup! Glad you had such a good time figuring out how to persevere. Staying at Belle's house was just the icing on the cake wasn't it. Hope that storm wipes away the inversion layer once and for all.

  30. Pure genius! Because of this I stuffed some cookies in Lilly and Buddies kongs and they've been enjoying the puzzle for a while now. I used to put shredded cheese in Lilly's but then she figured out she could simply drop her kong down the stairs and it would all pop out. Smart, smart pups we have!

    Happy seeing beautiful!

  39. I completely agree Goose, persistence does indeed pay off and you need to stick at your goal and never give up, this is true! I love how the smallest thing can become a big message!
I really enjoyed the video, I have a treat ball, I love it, its bright pink and Mum fills it with my kibble plus a big treat so the kibbles are harder to get out because the big treat is in the way, but with persistence I get everything!
You did such a good job with your treat ball!
Happy playing! Love, Licks and Hugs from your Furiend Frank XxxxX
