I am glad you are here to see my fish story. The day started out like this:
A beautiful sunrise. You know it is going to be a great day with a sky like that.
First Belle and I made sure that the squirrels knew we were watching them. Well, really it is Belle who keeps watch, it's her thing. She lets me know if she needs help. But soon we would be off to find something MOM is just sure is out there.
OK, see the bright light green brush? MOM was just convened that a creek or river runs through there (after all we were in an area called Pebble Creek). And on our previous day outings we did run into some marshy like areas. And because of that she was just sure there was a Beaver pond somewhere. All I knew was that we were headed out together and that was all that mattered.
Belle is standing in front of the thick thick bushes that MOM said stood between us and what she was sure was a Beaver pond.
So in I go. Can you see my butt? Wait let me show you a closer shot.
You thought I was talking about a closer shot of my butt? You guys are silly. No, closer of what we trekked through. Can you see me? I'm at the bottom center. And yes my MOM got through all that, with only a few scrapes and scratches.
We did find water. But not a Beaver dam, so we pressed on.
Then we found more water, but still not a Beaver pond. You guessed it we kept moving on.
We took a little snack break... yummy cheese. Then on we went.
Then Belle came running back, she found something.
A stream!! Leave it to a Golden Retriever to find water. Am I right Bert?
The bush is kind of covering me up (middle left). We decided to go up stream.
One of my MOM's favorite things to do is to hike up streams, rivers or creeks. She can't think of much that is better than that. Belle and I are glad she loves it so much, cuz we like it too. So we kept moving up stream.
And then there it was, the Beaver Pond!! MOM was right.
Here is the other end of it.
It was so cool. And the Beaver was just across this pond that he/she created. I was amazed at the creature. Couldn't take my eyes off it for a long while. But MOM said we could not chase it.
Belle (like Bert) just loves to swim and swim. So she was very happy about the Beaver Pond.
While MOM fished (yes besides carrying her day pack she also carried her fishing pole) Belle and I played around. Like hiking up a stream my MOM LOVES to fish. It doesn't matter if she catches anything, she just loves doing it. Of course it is a little tougher with Belle swimming in the water and me splashing around at the waters edge. But MOM did not mind, she was just happy to be where we where.
Then I did something that MOM has never seen me do. I plunged my head COMPLETELY under water. MOM was shocked and when I came up and looked at her (her eyes as wide as a full moon), she took out her camera and wondered if I would do it again. I did not disappoint. I even gave her one better than just submerging my head under water. This time when I came up out of the water...
I came up with my own fish!!! A 10" brown trout. I caught my own fish! I thought MOM was going to fall into the water she was so surprised.
Then I ran up the bank with my fish. Better click on this one for a closer view. Sushi anyone? hehhe No one and no dog would have believed us if we just told them. Sooooo glad MOM had her camera at just the right moment.
MOM then caught a few like this one. We make a great pair. It's like we were made for each other.
After a few hours of fishing and swimming and just being, we hiked back to our tent. We even took a different way back and saw some other areas to check out the next day. We may look tired, and we are, but it was worth every effort. It was a beautiful day indeed!
"Hey MOM I'll trade you some of my fish for a sip of your beer." (MOM always packs in a beer, rolled up in the tent, so if she does get some fish she has the perfect beverage to go with it.)
I'll try to wrap it all up in my next post, even though I could go on and on about our trip.
Blessings,
Goose
OMD! I can't believe you caught a fish all by yourself! I bet Bert has never even done that before.

Way to go Goose! We are so dang proud of you for catching that BIG fish. You're right, it's a good thing Mom had that camera with her when you caught it. Cuz we've all heard the stories about the big one that got away... And kudos to your Mom too for catching a great looking fish. I just bet it was a totally pawsome dinner that night.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great adventure for the three of you.
Hugs,

My jaw dropped. My head lunged forward. A smile spread across my face. I laughed out loud. Goose is catching fish! Head-under-water-catching-fish! Holy moly me oh my!!! It immediately reminded me of the "“Give a man a fish, and you’ll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you’ve fed him for a lifetime" quote. I think its a beautiful illustration of two things 1) Not just men know how to fish - CLEARLY and 2) Goose, it's easy to tell that you've spent your life knowing how to fish because you feed those around you with your unconditional love. I'm glad your MOM has gotten to live this, but seeing the literal catching of a fish is spectacular too!
ReplyDeleteHappy seeing beautful!
Wow Goose, i never heard anything like it! You've got to teach us your technique! And write a book! Fishing Lessons for Dummy Dogs!
