Cuddle Time

Hello Friends.

My last post I talked about the change in my life.  A part of that change has an up side (like I knew it would).  I may not go on as many big hiking adventures butt I sure have found a GREAT alternative in between those hiking adventures.

Reading with MOM

Napping with a stick I saved on my last adventure with MOM.

A little snooze with Billy Moose.

And best of all, cuddles with my MOM after a walk around the neighborhood.  Yea I think I can settle into this next phase of my life.

Change

Hello Friends.

Change.  Change is enviable.  That's what they say, and they are right.  There are some changes in my life and MOM's too.  Let me tell ya about a few.

That's me in our Blazer.

And that's my gal pal Belle.  MOM has had this Blazer for longer than she has had me, almost 16 years!  We love it.

It has taken us to some amazing adventures, hikes, backpacking, leisurely drives.

MOM has done most of the maintenance on the Blazer, here she is changing the fuel filter.  Well the time has come to let the Blazer go.  It was starting to need to much work and frankly MOM does not have the time to do it any more.  I am sure going to miss it, butt... change is just apart of life.

Here is my new ride, a Subaru Outback.

Yea I fit in here just fine.  I still am the co-pilot.  Which brings me to another change, sort of.

Like the Blazer I have gotten older, I am approaching 15.  And like the Blazer, with age I have slowed down a bit and sometimes I brake down.  Don't worry MOM is not trading me in for a newer model, butt..

You know I am a lover of the outdoors.

Hiking

Backpacking

Strolling in nature

Blazing trails

You get the idea.  It's a big part of my life with my MOM.

Butt in the last year it has gotten harder for me.  OH I STILL LOVE IT, but when we finish I am sore, extra tired, and it is hard for me to get up after a nap.

And even more recently I have trouble climbing, and jumping over logs and gaps in the earth.

I have lost muscle tone in my back legs making it hard for me.

Steep inclines like this I use to run up and down a half dozen times before MOM even got to the top.

Now it takes a lot more effort.  A time or two in the last year MOM has had to help me, even once carrying me about 1/4 of a mile out.

So this past weekend MOM and I were going to go on a 4 day backpacking trip.  Butt a few things came up and it got cut short to maybe 2 days.  Then MOM decided maybe it wasn't such a good idea, she was worried about me.  Butt I convinced her we should go.  I slept with her hiking boots, sniffed them, would whine push the boots and look at her.  So she decided we would go on a SHORT trip.  She could tell it was important to me, so important that she did not go to church (don't worry others filled in for her so we could make this trip).  That's what the photos are of.

Look how happy I am.  I just love being out there.  Just me and my MOM.

MOM of course kept a close eye on me and she seemed to take a few more breaks during our adventure.

She would sit along the river while I took my break standing in a pool in the river.

Well I stood there until I noticed a stick across the way that may need rescuing.

And it did.  Good thing I was there.  For some reason MOM just looked at me and smiled.

We took it slow through fallen leaves and bare branch archways where tree roots made steps for us along the way.

I may be old butt I still lead the way and MOM let me decide where we should go.

There was such beauty everywhere we turned.  Butt nothing more beautiful than time spent together doing what we love.

We sat and talked, MOM shed a tear or two.  Oh this won't be the last of my adventures, it's just a change in the adventures.  I won't be climbing up and down mountains, but stroll through woods and easy trials.  I won't be flying through the air and sailing over logs, but find an easier way around.  I won't go on 5 day backpacking trips, butt shorter ones or maybe just day hikes.  Change can be hard, that is true.  Butt I am going to make the most of it and enjoy it every bit as much as my more rugged adventures.  As long as I am with my MOM it really does not matter where we are or what we are doing.  MOM said there will be more couch snuggle time in our future.  Now that is change I am looking forward to.
Blessings,
Goose

Short Leash

Hello Friends.

Oh boy Oh boy!!  I received a package in the mail the other day.

Here it is, a package from Frankie and Ernie!!

LOOK!  Look at that cool card.  And look at what was inside...

That's me!  Well it looks like me.  MOM said it was just the most beautiful leash she has ever seen.

"A WHAT MOM?"
"A leash Gooie."
"Ummmmm, I don't think that's what it is."
"Sure it is, lets walk test it."

"Ummmm, yea.  Aaaa MOM unless you plan on riding like a pony I really don't think this 'Leash' is long enough.  Let me show you what this 'Leash' is for."

"See it's a leash for your keys.  I put your keys to the homeless shelter on it.  Then you can put it on your wrist, like this, and bam, you have the most beautiful key holder/chain/leash there ever was."

Thank you thank you Frankie and Ernie and your momma.  My MOM loves it, specially now that she knows how to use it.  And I am very thankful that it's not my new leash.  I like being a dog, not a riding pony.
Blessings,
Goose

Land Shark

Hello Friends.

This past Saturday at my church we had our annual Fun Run and Walk and Chili Cook-Off to benefit our Veteran's Home.  Everyone had a GREAT time and tons of green papers was raised for our wonderful Veterans.  BUTT one thing did happen that well.... it had a direct effect on me.  Seems that one of MOM's friends had a gift for me.  You know I love gifts, butt really... I am just speechless.  Let me show you.

It's a shark costume!  I am not amused.

Seriously what was MOM's friend thinking?  I am a Silverymistywiem, not a shark.  I mean water is nice and all, butt I do not want to spend my life in the wet stuff.  BUTT I know someone who would LOVE to spend his life in water.

My buddy Bert.  As a very wise Wiem once said (my brother Easy), "Misery shared is misery halved."

Butt just look at him!!!!!  He is so loving being a shark.  So much for misery shared.

Hahahhaha Butt I gotta admit, he makes a great land shark.  {insert Jaws theme music here}.

Funny things is Bert's head is so big (insert your own joke here) his head won't fit into the costume.  Bawhahhahhaa

Oh butt don't you worry friends.  I will get my MOM back for this.  I'm just going to wait right here in the shower for her to step in.  She will be so scared when she sees Goose Shark she may never step in the shower again.

Hehehehhehhe, oh I can't wait to see the look on her face.  I bet it will be even better than when a mouse jumped in there with her.  Hahhahhahha,
Blessings,
Goose

The Animal Mind

Hello Friends.

MOM and I are still around.  MOM is still working lots, but she has 3 of the 4 extra projects behind her now.  One more week and we will be back to normal around here.  Well as normal as it can be.  Anyway... while MOM was on her way to the homeless shelter Wednesday morning she stopped at the grocery store, something about needing a few things to fix lunch for the peoples who come to the shelter.  When she came back to the Blazer and loaded up the back with stuffs she got in and showed me something.  It was a magazine and said, "What do you think about this?"  I had an opinion right away.

So when we came home last night I decided to check this whole thing out.  It's a TIME magazine, and it's cover title is "The Animal Mind: What they're thinking and feeling, and how to understand them."  Hummmmm this should be interesting.

I dug in right away.  There are a lot of different parts to this magazine.  I started with the section entitled, "Why Cats and Dogs Think Differently about You."  Very interesting points where made.  One of the points made was that "Dogs serve people, but people serve cats."  What do you all think about that?

There are a lot of other sections that I will need to read through, like: "Animals have brains, but do they have minds?"  Is that a serious question?  I mean look at me, I'm reading their magazine.  Dahhhh.  "Those who know the meaning of friendship."  We certainly do know the meaning.  Other sections talk about "Animal Talk", "Animal Grief", "Power of the Pack", "Mental Illness", "Animal Rights", and much more.  I told MOM that I would read through it all and give her my professional opinion on the whole thing.  After all, who would know the animal mind better than us.  Go to the source I always say.
Blessings,
Goose
