MOM put my blankie in the recycle can. Moments later I took it out. She put it back in. I took it out. MOM sighed, gave me a pat on the head and a hug and then put it in the recycle can again. Then she led me out to the Blazer. I was sad. She went to a few stores. Then when we got home I went to the recycle can, but MOM said "Hold on I have something for you." She sat me down on my bed and she gave me this.
Out of the ashes (or recycle can), God raises up new life. From the old life, Christ can and does calls us to lives of love and faithfulness and to begin anew. "And the one seated on the throne said, 'See, I am making all things new!'"
There are many ways to think of God's desire and true ability to make things new among us, but on this day I'd like to think of how agape (unconditional love) fills that purpose. Jesus' commandment "to love one another" is new, but it is also renewing. It restores broken relationships (and blankies). It brings about reconciliation. Agape has the power to transform otherwise hopeless scenarios. Agape when it is seen and enacted helps give us a vision of what God's kingdom is like right here, right now.

This doesn't mean I have to love Allred, does it?
ReplyDeleteStrange ~ I was just reading about your blankie when your comment on my blog popped in! I love my old blankie to much to give it up.
ReplyDeleteBut today at our church home the title of our serman was God's Kingdom.
Sweet William The Scot

ReplyDeleteSlobbers
I like your new blanket my friend, but there is always something special about the old ones huh? :)
ReplyDeleteOh, beautiful! I love that it is about the love the blanket provides, not the thing itself. It's sort of like God's love for us. There are things we can feel from those around us we love and that's seminal in our lives, but then there's God's love we feel based on our faith and that, that is life changing. That's life giving.
ReplyDeleteHappy seeing beautiful.
You're so lucky, Goose! Your new blanket is pawesome!!!
ReplyDeleteOh we r so furry much happee that u atopped by our blog - it reminded us (an'our mom) that we shood stop by an'introduce ourselvez - not just follow. We r Shiloh'n Shasta - we kept seein'your commentz on other blogz an'us (an'our mom) d-sided we shood stop by your blog tu c what wuz up. We all (mom tu) really like it so we d-sided we shood follow u. You look furry much handsum in your new blankie butt yep, the old stuffz r really hard tu give up. Our mom knowz all 'boutz havin'tu give up the old an'take on sumthin'nu.
ReplyDeleteFrom the mom - also read that article that was in the magazine. That is so cool that the church where your mom preaches gave her permission to open up a service to people who wanted to bring their dogs - wish we had a church here in Topeka that did that. A few years ago Shiloh (both of mine are registered therapy dogs) was allowed to go with me to our UMC where I am a member to deliver the children's message - he even knows how to pray. I loved reading how you can even warn your mom when her blood sugar is out of whack - that takes a special dog who has a special bond with their human parent.

Hey Goose,
ReplyDeleteThat new blankie looks cool, but I can understand you wanting to rescue your old one - I'm sure it will be ok buddy!! Your new one will feel all snuggly like your old one in no time! :)

ReplyDeleteSorry about your old blankie Goose. Maybe your Mom will let you keep a nice size square of the old one (unless its too late). But you and your new blanket will be great together in no time at all.

Puddles
Oh no - you lost your poor blankie! Now my Mom is the sentimental kind, she would of stitched it up, patched it and heck sewn the pieces of it onto a new one.....that is what she did with my "blue moose" the first toy I ever got - it no longer has any legs, it's body has been stuffed into one of dad's old socks but it still has the moose head and is still my favorite toy. But I guess a nice new blankie will do in a pinch :)
ReplyDeleteI love your new blankie, Goose! And, you wear it perfectly!
ReplyDeleteStewey
That is a wonderful illustration of that message. Love your new blankie.
