So there I was yesterday doing my daily patrol of my yard when...
Come on Follow me.
Check this out. Someone left me a bundle of sticks!!
"Goosie that is not a bundle of sticks it's the bird nest that was in the apple tree."
"Really? A birds nest?"
"Yep."
"It's HUGE! Is it an Emu nest?"
"haha, no Gooseberry. I would say it's a Magpie nest."
"Why is their nest on the ground? Where are the baby birdies? Do you think they are alright? Should we look for them? Should we put their home back in the tree? I'm a bit worried for them."
"I am sure the babies grew up and flew away to make a new home for themselves."
"Why would they want to leave this beautiful STICK home? If I had a stick home I would stay in it forever."
Just look at the quality of construction. I mean it was way up in the tree and the BIG wind came and knocked it to the ground AND it is still in perfect shape.
They also left some of their dinner in here. See those apples?
Don't worry little birdies I will stand guard over your home until you return. I am after all 'Goose Defender of the Weak', 'Friend to all Creatures', AND 'Might STICK Saver'. Your home is safe with me.
(Disclaimer: All stick homes left for 90 or more becomes the property of Sir King Goose the III)
Blessings,
Goose
Dude, Goose that nestie is as big as you!! Are you sure that you aren't going to be laying any eggs soon?! ;-) Hehehe! That's very nice of you to take care of the nest for your Magpie friends, perhaps they are on vacation and will return soon?! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat's as big as a dog bed! You could curl up in it, just like the magpies did. Imagine that, Goosie, a stick bed - a dream come true!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool find, Goose!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful piece of artwork, is what it is! We hope your Mom lets you keep it for a long time.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday, furriends!
OMD!! What is going on over der?! We don't have a tree on our yard besides a baby one but the birds nested in our rain gutter..Mom yelled at me one day bcuz I was going to eat this poor featherless baby that had dropped outta the nest (mom bird most likely pushed it out) and went splat on the sidwalks by my door! That poor helpless little birdy! I left it alone and went to potty and when I came back she had hid it someplace and I couldn't find it!! Good thing your baby birdies grew up and were able to fly, fly away!

Wow that is a big nest Goose. We bet it will get recycled for a new birds nest or two or three. Lucky it came down after the babies had gone. Have a fabulous Friday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
that is quite a home and all made of sticks... hope they don't come back in 90 days so you can have the sticks
ReplyDeleteOh Goose you are so very kind to be so concerned about your little birdie friends, you are very sweet to keep watch of thier little home, I'm sure that you would love to live in a big nest of sticks like that, but its a little bit small for you to curl up in! Maybe the Magpies will build you your very own stick home for being kind to them? I love all the photos, your face looks so caring and full of love!
ReplyDeleteLove and Licks from your furiend Frank xxxxxx
That is a really cool stick nest and how nice of the birds to leave it there for you! Have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteGoose, that is like a huge treasure to you with all those sticks. That Bird sure did a good construction job of that nest. That was so nice of you to be concerned about the baby birds. Maybe they will come back and build another nest. Take care and have a great week end.
ReplyDeleteHmm maybe you should build your own stick nest goose?
ReplyDeleteThat is a huge nest of sticks they left for you Goose. Are you going to re-purpose them somehow?
ReplyDeleteMillie & Walter
Now that is the biggest nest we have ever seen! You are so sweet Goose to be concerned for the babies. Maybe they will come back and visit you some day

MOL MOL MOL Emu nest. Goose you are so funny!!
ReplyDeleteGoose life would be purrfect if you had a stick home. I'm sure should the big bad wolf come huffing and puffing at your stick house you'd send him to the moon.

ReplyDeleteGoose you look so incredibly guardian-like around those sticks! Plus you are nearly as curious as any cat...8-0
The Black kites which fly around the skies here build nests similar to this but nearly twice that size and the 'sticks' are almost minilogs at the base. This very day (I kid you now!) a female flew down in front of my window and picked one of these enormous things off the drive - it had been blown of the branch by last night's megastorm (harking back to the last post *>) I wonder if she is Mumbai's equivalent of Goose the Stickologist???

How big are the magpies in your area, Goose? They must be as big as eagles LOL. But isn't that great how handy (or wingy) this birds are? Have a great friday brother, you are a perfect guard for this bird condo. I'm just the guard of my mom's tissues today.

Goose you look so wonderful guarding the nest, you are a kind soul. I think if that had been in my garden I could have got into it, it looks so BIG. We sometimes had nests on the grass, but they are so tiny I am sure you could carry them. Lady Vicki x

Howdy Goose, wowza that is an impressive nest. Thank goodness you are there to watch over it until the next family moves in. Can your mum put it back in the tree or wouldn't any more birds use it? It certainly is a work of great architecture for sure! No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a mighty big log cabin for birdies you found there, Goose! You're so sweet to stand guard over it!
ReplyDeleteCammie!
That is a HUGE stick home bird nest Goose!!!! What an amazing find! I'm always so impressed with the bird homes I see but we have none around here that big.
ReplyDeleteI always love when I fly out of New Orleans... there are EAGLE nests in the swamp... their nests are really big!!!
We had a nest we watched all summer. Three different species of birdies lived in the nest, of course with each new arrival there was remodeling and adding own to make it their own. Now that is conservation of natural resources.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a friend

It should come as no surprise to any of us that you found a nest made of sticks. It's also no surprise that you'll guard them with the expertise that is unparalleled. Beautiful.
