Hiking Wish

Hello Gooses Friends.

I know it's Wordless Wednesday and I am sure you would get what Goose is saying in the photos, being the smart pups and kit cats that you are.  But I though I would share my thoughts on what Goose was thinking.

Last night was a beautiful evening so I left the back door open.  Goose likes to lay in front of the open door and survey his kingdom.  After a while I went to check on him.

What I found was he had dragged out a pair of my hiking boots out(this is something he has never done before).  He was laying on them and was whimpering softly.  I have to be honest with you, it brought a tear to my eye.

Then he moved a little bit and started to sniff my hiking boot.  Another tear filled my eyes.

Then Goose noticed I had snuck up behind him.  He looked at me as if to say, "I miss hiking with you."  My heart broke a little.  I did put on my hiking boots and we walked around the yard for a little while.  I know it's not the same as trekking up and down mountains, but he seemed to enjoy it.  We came back in, he had a salmon treat then he fell fast asleep (in the middle of the bed).  hahaha.
Blessings,
Gooses MOM

  8. Oh Goose and Michelle, we are so sorry that you can't have long hikes. It is sad when life changes like that.

  9. it was very wet around our eyes here too, bro... but your mom did a wonderful thing to put on her hiking shoes and to walk with you through your yard. I know it's not the same, but it's the thought what counts, right? Send you a big hug bro and just in case our mailserver is still down: a parcel came to my crib!!!! many thanks bro, as soon as the rain stops my dad has to work on "my way" :o)

  10. Goose may be "getting older" but he sure is smart.
He knew pulling the boots out of the closet would get
a stroll around the yard with his mom.

  11. Goose we think you were enjoying some of the WONDERFUL MEMORIES that you have of all the Fabulous Hikes you and your mom have taken together... and maybe worried that your mom wouldn't remember them.
It was super that she put the boots on and took you out fur a nice time together.

  13. Oh Goose, our hearts break along with your MOM's! Cinderella agrees it's no fun at ALL when your heart still wants to do all the things you love but your body just can't keep up. And Momma and I agree it hurts watching that happen. :(

  17. my heart broke reading this, i can only imagine how yours felt.. so sweet and glad you took him on a 'hike'. Baby is losing her sight, her hearing and now has trouble getting on the sofa in a hurry. as in jump up to bark at the window. she has not barked at the mail man for months now...

  18. That's so sweet that you "hiked" with Goose for a little bit. That would really break my heart though if B did that. Thankfully, she's still relatively young and we are able to get out every day. It stinks when our dogs get older and can't do the things they still want to do - the mind is willing, the body isn't. Hugs.

  19. We are hoping when spring comes that you two may be able to find some of your favorite spots and just sit and watch the world go by. It won't be as good as a hike, but there will be sweet smells in the air and warm sunshine.

  20. Neither Bart nor Ruby can hike any more. Waling out to our mailbox in the front and smelling PeeMail is about the best thing ever. She loves it. The other day after it had been raining for about 24 hours straight I was taking Otto out for a hike. BOTH Bart and Ruby dashed out the door - just because! It was bittersweet. Bart was my hiking buddy and I miss him. We love you Goose!!

  21. Oh Goose, even though you can't hike the mountains anymores, I knows you have all the memories, and dream of hikin' with your Moms every night! My heart breaks just a little for you, butts I knows you still have lots of good memories to make with your Moms, and maybe chase some bubbles! ☺
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥

  23. I can imagine that the sight of Goose longingly sniffing your hiking boots would bring more than one tear to your eyes. I'm glad you walked around outside together.

Just to share our experience with past elderly dogs in our family. Sometimes, we'd take them to a nice trail that has a peaceful stopping spot in about a quarter mile (or less). We'd take our elderly dog for a hike to that close nice spot, and we'd stop and hang out. Sometimes, we'd bring a picnic so we can hang out for a nice long time. Our elderly dogs seemed to love this because we got to spend time in the familiar and fun outdoors together without so much walking for them - so I thought that I'd share it with you.

Goose is a dog after my own heart. I'm glad that he had a great evening, ending with sleeping in the middle of the bed :) and I'm sure he snuggled with you too!

  27. Letting go of some of that fun stuff is always hard, but you are still together and can still step out of the front door together, and that is a joy that mere words cannot describe adequately.

Goose, we were so, so touched by a beautiful letter that came in the mail from you today. It was so kind of you t include us in your celebration. We will do our very best to always SEE BEAUTIFUL.

  28. Hi Y'all!

Oh Goose, we are always thinking of you. Even when my Human is has appointments and meetings and can't visit, she thinks of you and wonders how you're doing. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for you not to be able to hike with your mom any longer.

    Y'all come on by,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  29. Dear Michelle and Goose, O.k. so this brought a few tears to my eyes. I have been praying for Goose. His life and passion for you are so incredible! To know his desire was to go walking with his mom is so sweet. I'm praying that however he hurt his leg at Miss Vickie's-it is getting better and maybe this spring you can go camping together. You are the best, love you both and holding you up! Noreen & Hunter
