You read the title right, Bert's Mischief. My buddy who is known for his wonderful work as a therapy dog, he reads to children at the schools, of course even though he is retired from Search and Rescue he still does it now and again, AND he goes to schools and wherever children gather to teach them how to be safe in the wilderness and if they do get lost what to do. Yep that's the Bert I am talking about and his mischief. Let me explain.
This is a place we call The Pond. You have seen me here before. Bert and I like to come here. This pond is along the Centennial Trail that I showed you on Blogvilles first Park Day. What is unique about the pond is it is privately owned. The path around the pond is owned by our town, but the pond it's self is private. The people who own it are super nice. They compete in water skiing competitions and this is where they practice. Miss Vickie knows them and they board their dog with her. On the other side of those trees you see in the distance is the river that we love so much.
That is where I rescue a lot of sticks.
And Bert soaks his head. But soaking his head is not the mischief.
Let's get back to The Pond. So there we were walking around The Pond with Miss Sophie to get to the river side, when all of the sudden Bert BLAST past me and veers left to the pond. I thought he just really really wanted to get wet and did not want to wait til we got to the river. He's crazy about water like that.
"Hey Bert what ya doing? Come on MOM and Miss Vickie want us to get a move on. Bert. BERT! Oh my goodness Bert, what do you have? MOM you better come see this."
I think Sophie was very worried that her beloved Bert was drowning. But I knew what was going on.
You see that thing he has in his mouth? You know what that is? It is a water buoy that the skiers use to keep them safe so they don't run a ground and get hurt.
Miss Vickie was shocked. But she thought he'll give up soon, because after all, this thing has a big chain attached to it and it has a HUGE 4x4 that the other end of the chain is attached to and is anchored to the bottom of the pond. All though she did keep telling him to drop it and get out of the water.
But it was like the boy lost his hearing. All he saw was a giant ball and he was determined to get it to shore so my MOM could throw it for him.
AND HE DID! He actually dragged that orange buoy to shore. Chain and 4x4 and all. AND, yes there is more, he tore the buoy in HALF! Noticing that the "ball" was no longer a ball he left it on shore and trotted up the trail like nothing was wrong. Miss Vickie just stood there trying to comprehend what the Golden Boy had done. So there you have it, Golden Boy's mischief. I know you all are shocked.
Blessings,
Goose
Special note: Yes Miss Vickie called the owners of the pond and told them what Bert did and offered to pay for a new one. I am not sure how that conversation ended. I guess if we get to go back then all is well.
Oh Bert that is hilarious!

ReplyDeleteMollie and Alfie
Never under estimate the retrievers instinct to retrieve ...especially if it involves a ball and water :)
ReplyDeleteOMD Goose that was a most exciting and action packed story.
ReplyDeleteBert has what we call tunnel vision...had his eye on the ball and looking for the prize.
WTG Bert We hope and purr the owners of the pond are laughing just an itty bitty bit over this.
Hugs Madi your BFFF
LOL Bert...that is some crazy mischief. Thanks for sharing it Goose!
ReplyDeleteBert did WHAT? OMD! He sure was crazy going after that buoy like that. At least the buoy didn't drown.
ReplyDeleteYes, we too would like to know how THAT conversation went with the owners :)
Hugs,
Lily Belle & Muffin
BOL! That sounds just like something Kuster would do! Must be the SAR dog in him. Let no ball drown is his motto!
ReplyDeleteBunny
Goose Buddy, boy I guess you know it, I got in trouble when I got home. well not trouble but I did get a good talking to. "Bert you could have drowned Bert you need to listen to me when I tell you to Come. Bert, this is really gonna cost me" and on and on. But to tell you the truth, I sensed she was grinning under her sour look. And Dude, tell your mom thanks for getting it on film. It was a proud moment for me when I dragged that thing and its chain and the heavy thing on the bottom, to shore. I AM KING OF THE WORLD. he he.....but I am her Golden Boy too.
ReplyDeleteTruly impressive, but I'm not surprised...I mean, a ball was involved.
ReplyDeleteWell... we hope you don't get in trouble. After all, you were just trying to help......
ReplyDeletehugs, Bugsy and Knuckles
That's a golden mischief, haha. But that was a hard work, a buoy with the whole equipment ! - Oh Boy - a Buoy :o) Think we should call him now Bercules :o)
ReplyDeleteThis. Is. Hilarious. Only Bert would drag a buoy across a pond in hopes of celebrating it's awesomeness with everyone. He must have thought he was competing in the Olympics of all rescues with that one. Perhaps he was doing under cover training for that tricky of a rescue that this adventure will reveal itself as seminal.
ReplyDeleteHappy seeing beautiful in buoys today!
i tried not to laugh, truly I did, but i lost out and did a really loud laugh, Golden Boy and the Golden buoy... just love it...can't wait to hear what the end of the conversation was about a new buoy bought by golden boy....
ReplyDeleteBOL - I wonder how much those things cost?
ReplyDeleteSam
Way to go, Bert!! Selective hearing comes in very handy sometimes especially when food or a giant ball is involved!!
ReplyDeleteYour pal, Pip
OMD that is too funny...I don't know whether to say Yay Bert for being so determined or be aghast at sweet Bert doing such major mischief...maybe a bit of both
ReplyDeleteHow heavy was that ball, hopefully no one was upset about it!
ReplyDeletestella rose
Well, when a dog wants his ball, there is nothing that will stop him, right? We hope the owners are not upset and understand that dogs do have their mischievous moments.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
Well it's a big ball in the water those silly humans strike again
ReplyDeleteUrban hounds
Sure looks like some fun mischief to get into!
ReplyDeleteHa Ha Thanks for showing this to us Goose! Boy that would have been SUPER if you could come with Bert when he heads our way. But it is a great thing your MOM is doing, raising awareness for hunger. Our Mom says we need to plan a trip to your area - it is soo pretty, cause we would love to meet you and your MOM!

OMD...I am not sure if I should be amazed at the mighty mischief or the strength that it took to get that buoy to shore!! Either way I am very impressed!! BOL!!!
ReplyDelete~Higgins
OMD OMD OMD, I don't believe it! Way to go Bert! You know what, those thingies had it coming to them. Just bobbing along in the water. Sooner or later somedog was bound to pull them up. I understand. Hope you get to go back!
ReplyDeleteOh Goose darling, that is an amazing tale about our sweet Bert! We crabby girls can hardly believe it. Gorgeous Bert must be incredibly strong and he's so very dedicated to his task. Goodness this made us teeheehee POL giggle. Lovely work, Bert and thank you Goose, dear, for showing us all of the excitement. We bet those skipeeps were stunned!

WAY TO GO BERT!!! BRAVO BUDDY!!! YOU retrievered than thingy like a PAWFessional BOUY SAVER!!! WE think you are wonderful and that you are NOT involved in ANY mischief at ALL. THAT is our story and WE are STICKing with you bud.
ReplyDeleteBOL!!! OMD, Bert, I'm so proud of you for retrieving that ball! I hope it doesn't cost TOO much for your momma to replace, though.
ReplyDeleteHi Goose, I just bounced over from Tootsie's blog, and boy am I glad that I did. You see I have been in my human's bad books ever since exhibiting too much creativity and individuality when running round an agility course at the weekend, but now you have related all about Bert's misdemeanour in the pond then I don't look so bad by comparison. I am a terrier and not at all fond of water you see.
ReplyDeleteToodle pip!
Bertie.
I totally understand, you rescued that ball just like you rescue those sticks. Your a Hero Bert!
ReplyDeleteWe gotta admire Bert's style. It was sort of like a ball and he is a retriever!
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Pee Ess - The painting resumes tomorrow - UGH!
Oh that Bert!!! BOL!!! What a funny story!
ReplyDeleteLicks,
Ruthie
Goose, I can so understand Bert's innocent mistake-after all he thought a ball needed rescuing. Loved all the pictures;bet you and your mom are wanting to be in that pond right now-it is so hot here.
ReplyDeleteWags, Noreen & Hunter
I sure hope the owners don't get mad and ask you pups to stay out of the pond!! Silly Bert!
ReplyDeleteOMD! That Bert is one determined boy!
ReplyDeleteMillie & Walter
Bol.....silly Bert
ReplyDeleteBert is one crazy determined retriever!!
