Saying Goodbye to a Freind

Hello Friends.

Yesterday my MOM had to do a very hard thing.  See on Friday she received a phone call inquiring about the well being of Cooper.  He is my friend and he has spent some time at my house romping and playing with me and his sister Shasta.

Seem that Mr. Coop (as my MOM calls him) was having trouble using his back leg, in fact he was not using it at all and he seemed in some pain.  So my MOM dropped everything and met Aunt Cherrie at my vet.  Dr. Eddie looked Cooper over real good and it was determined that he had very sever spine problem, not uncommon in Doxies.  Options were surgery with a specialist (with minimal guarantee) and not that cost should enter into it, butt it would be above $6,000.  Or see if some medication could help, if only temporary.  They went for the medications and check back in in a few days.

Monday was check-in day.  MOM received a call from Aunt Cherrie and Uncle Michael.  Cooper was at the vet and unfortunately there was no improvement, in fact he was worse and was now paralyzed.  They asked if MOM would come right away.  And she did of course.

You have to understand Uncle Michael and Aunt Cherrie love Cooper very much.  Butt they just could not bear be there to see him cross over the Rainbow Bridge, so they asked my MOM if she would make sure he got safely across.  When MOM got there she hugged Aunt Cherrie and gave Cooper a kiss.  After a while Aunt Cherrie said her goodbyes and loved on Cooper and then sobbed out the door.

MOM held Cooper and Dr. Eddie was so caring and gentle and Mr. Coop went peaceably over the Bridge.

Let me tell you a bit about Cooper.  A few years ago Uncle Michael was at a friends house and there was Cooper next door, cute as could be.  Butt he had all these scares on his face.  Turns out that Mr. Coop loved chickens, butt chickens did not love him and would peck at his face.  The people who had Cooper did not know what to do.  Long story short Cooper went home with Uncle Michael and enjoyed a chicken free life.  I would see Cooper (and Shasta) almost every Sunday as I would spend the afternoon at their house while my MOM was at church.  Cooper and I would hang out together while Shasta would bounce all around us.  I liked sleeping with Mr. Coop, he was a great sleeping buddy.  I will sure miss his exuberant greeting when I would walk through the door.

I sure will miss you little buddy.  And I know we will meet again.

Blessings,
Goose

  21. Such very kind words you have about your friend Cooper. We are so sorry to hear what happened. But sometimes the humans have to do what is best for us. Poor little guy had so much pain. Phantom has a lot of spine and neck and leg pain, but Mom monitors him closely and his meds seem to be doing OK for him. But it can be so hard. Soft woos and gentle hugs to your pal's family and thanks to your Mom for being there for them too.
